Is My Galaxy Watch 4 Waterproof?

Like the Samsung Galaxy Watch before it, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 comes with two separate ratings for water immersions.  It has an IP68 rating for Ingress Protection which indicates it’s water-resistant for up to 30 minutes. Alongside that is a 5ATM rating which means it is immersion proof for up to 50 meters of depth.  Combined, that means the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 can be submerged in 50 meters of water for up to thirty minutes at a time safely. No electronic device is truly waterproof, but the Samsung Galaxy Watch is sufficiently water-resistant for such a purpose. That means it’s OK to wear while swimming briefly or even diving, depending on the depth. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is also certified for MIL-STD-810G durability, meaning it can withstand drops, extreme temperatures, shock/vibration, and low pressure/high altitude. It’s also resistant to dust, dirt, and sand.

Can I Wear My Galaxy Watch 4 in the Pool?

It’s safe to wear your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 in the pool, providing you’re not swimming for very long. Because it’s water-resistant for up to 30 minutes, it’s best to use for a quick dip rather than a long session. If you plan on swimming for a long time, it’s sensible to take your watch off. If the water uses chemicals or saltwater, it’s also a good idea to rinse the watch off under clean water when you get out of the water. You may also wish to use a different watch band than the one included with it.  Scuba diving is also possible, providing you don’t dive below the 5ATM/50-meter depth limit.

Can You Shower With Galaxy Watch 4?

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is OK to wear when showering, doing dishes, or in the rain. Water pressure is the only thing to be aware of here as it isn’t rated against high-pressure water streams, but your shower should be ok. Be wary of anything like firehoses or pressure hoses.

Which Galaxy Watches Are Waterproof?

Most of the Samsung Galaxy Watch range is water-resistant, but none are officially waterproof. The difference is that waterproof means it’s guaranteed to be okay in the water, while resistant means it can handle a swim or light diving session. Water-resistant watches include the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. It’s key to also pair the device with a watch strap that can handle water. A metallic or leather band isn’t ideal when a plastic one would be far lighter and easier to wear in water. Most bands are sweat-resistant, but few are water-resistant, and the wrong band can degrade if used in water excessively.
