Ideally, the best printers should be reasonably compact, though bigger printers may give you more functionality when it comes to printing and scanning. The best options on the market support fast printing and scanning, great photo quality, and may even come with a companion app that provides additional features. Read on to see our top picks for the best AirPrint printers in different categories and price ranges. The ten-page automatic document feeder and up to 50 sheets of overall paper capacity allow this printer to push up to 10 pages per minute (ppm) in black and white and up to 7ppm in color. This number drops slightly to 9ppm black and white and to 6ppm in color on battery, but the OfficeJet 250 has an external battery that’s good for up to 90 minutes of printing. Regardless, this is much faster than a mobile photo printer like the Kodak Step, which only prints a single page per minute.  The printer includes paper guides you can use to adjust your paper size, and these guides can be a bit tough to move, but overall, the printer has a functional design. The 2.65-inch color touchscreen allows for quick menu selection, with an easy-to-navigate interface with a home button and back button that’s reminiscent of a cell phone screen. You can also change the printer’s settings from the downloadable HP Smart app (for Android and iOS), as well as print, scan, edit, and more from the companion app. The inclusion of AirPrint makes wireless printing super easy for Apple hardware owners, but Android and Windows owners aren’t left in the cold, with Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth Smart Technology also allowing for wireless printing. Find out how to print on an iPad or print from your iPhone if this is your first AirPrint printer. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Wireless, USB, Apple AirPrint | LCD Screen: Touchscreen display | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print, copy, scan, fax There’s a 35-page automatic document feeder for scanning or copying large documents, and it didn’t experience any jamming during our testing. The 3830 will print 8ppm of black and white documents, and 6ppm of color documents. These aren’t blistering speeds by any means, but it holds its own. We were impressed with the photo quality we were able to print on the 3830, and the details in our printed photos were exceptionally clear.  There’s also a 60-sheet tray for feeding printed documents, and the outbound tray can accommodate up to 25 pages. You can print a full spread of standard sizes from 8.5 x 11 inches down to 4 x 6-inch prints. None of these numbers constitute great features on their own, but when you factor in seamless wireless connectivity, including the ease of using AirPrint to send documents, it makes for a highly connected office. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Wi-Fi, Wireless Direct Printing, HP ePrint, AirPrint | LCD Screen: Yes | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print, copy, scan, fax Measuring 23 x 12.3 x 6.3 inches and weighing 17.9 pounds, the iX6820 is small enough to fit almost anywhere indoors, but it’s not small enough to fit into a backpack for on-the-go prints. Capable of printing up to 14.5 black ppm and 10.4 color ppm, the iX6820 can tackle a borderless 4 x 6-inch photo in just 36 seconds from start to finish. For photo printing, the iX6820 combines FINE print head technology and genuine Canon photo paper for borderless photos that can last up to 300 years when stored properly. Additionally, the iX6820 offers a quiet mode for nearly zero noise when printing small quantities of paper. When it comes to wireless printing, AirPrint is ready from day one, and the PIXMA works perfectly with Mac computers without any additional drivers. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print | LCD Screen: No | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print This isn’t the smallest printer though, and it’s not the type of unit you can just sit on the corner of your desk. You’ll likely want to give it its own designated stand or table, as it measures 12.53 inches tall, 17.2 inches wide, and 15.6 inches in depth, and it weighs almost 26 pounds. It has a high-quality look, with a large LCD screen and a clean grey-and-white aesthetic, but this is the type of printer you’d want specifically in an office, as opposed to in a living room or bedroom where it would likely take over the room. You get a trial of HP Instant Ink with the printer, which provides ink right to your door before your cartridge is empty. This is a helpful service because you don’t have to worry about running to the store in the middle of a busy workday. However, after the trial, you’ll have to pay a monthly fee for the subscription, which will vary from $1 per month for 15 pages all the way up $25 for 700 pages. If you’re buying a printer with this capacity, you likely print quite a bit, so you’ll want to account for the subscription cost when deciding on this printer. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB 2.0, Apple AirPrint, HP Smart, Mopria Print Service, Wi-Fi Direct | LCD Screen: Yes | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print, copy, scan, fax Ideal for small offices and home offices, the 3760 can print in up to 4800 x 1200 resolution, and it can put out up to eight pages per minute in color (15 pages in black and white). This is much slower than a faster model like the HP DeskJet 9025, but it’s slightly faster than what we typically see from a budget or compact printer like the DeskJet 3755. The ET-3760 isn’t as heavy as some other small office models, weighing only around 16 pounds and clocking in at 10 inches tall, 16.4 inches wide, and 19.8 inches in depth. There is an automatic document feeder, but the scanner is a flatbed lift scanner, so this can have an impact on speed too. All in all, this is a great printer for someone who doesn’t want to deal with ink cartridges, but still wants high quality prints. If you want speed and power, there are other models on this list that may better serve you. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Epson iPrint, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB, Apple AirPrint, Mopria Print Service, Wi-Fi Direct, Google Cloud Print | LCD Screen: Yes | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print, copy, scan The security lock function enables administrators to regulate and restrict access to printer functions for up to 200 users, which offers added security and peace of mind for a business environment. Additional features such as an integrated NFC card reader for releasing print jobs with an NFC-compatible card or badge adds yet another layer of security for controlling access to the printer and reducing the cost of wasted prints. Low-cost printing is a staple of the HL-L8360CDW. Standard black toner cartridges yield 3,000 pages, while the three standard yield color cartridges offer up to 1,800 pages. The 250-sheet capacity and the 50-sheet capacity multi-purpose tray are expandable by adding other trays, so the total capacity can be 1,300 sheets of paper. Type: Laser | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: Wireless, Ethernet, USB, Apple AirPrint | LCD Screen: Yes | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print Since the DeskJet 3755 is an all-in-one model, it’s capable of printing, copying, scanning, and even mobile faxing from the HP Smart app. The document feeder holds up to 60 pages, so you can scan or copy decent-sized packets. But, it prints relatively slowly, putting out 8ppm in black and white and 5.5ppm in color. Finally, it connects via Wi-Fi, and because it’s optimized for Apple AirPrint, it should work perfectly for the mobile-minded. Type: InkJet | Color/Monochrome: Color | Connection Type: USB, WiFi, Apple AirPrint, HP Smart app | LCD Screen: Yes | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print, copy, scan, fax The PJ733 can print up to 8ppm at a resolution of 300dpi, and it can handle documents ranging from 4.1 x 1 inches all the way up to 8.5 x 18 inches. This makes it a good solution for workers at point-of-sale locations, delivery, and public safety officials. However, it’s important to note that the paper feeder can be awkward until you get used to it, as the paper tends to roll. Aside from Airprint, connectivity options include Google Cloud, Mopria, and Wi-Fi direct. With an optional added battery pack, the PJ733 is capable of printing 600 pages while on the go. Otherwise, it charges with an AC adapter or a DC car adapter. Type: Thermal | Color/Monochrome: Monochrome | Connection Type: Wireless, USB, Apple Airprint | LCD Screen: No | Scanner/Copier/Fax: Print Eric Watson is a tech writer who specializes in consumer technology. He tested the HP OfficeJet on our list, and particularly liked that it’s an all-in-one printer. Jeffrey Daniel Chadwick is tech writer focused on consumer and mobile technology. What to Look for in an Airprint Printer

Quality

Before you start narrowing down your options, decide whether you want a laser or inkjet printer. Laser printers are better for documents, but color models can be more expensive. Inkjet printers are optimal if you’re planning on printing a lot of pictures on photo paper — ink is less expensive than laser printer toner, but you’ll have to replace it more often. Look at metrics like DPI to see the printing resolution, as well as how many pages the printer can put out per minute in black and white and in color to see how fast the printer can go.

Size

Size and form factor are also important considerations when thinking about a new printer. Is the machine going to sit on an already-messy desk, or do you have a separate printer stand? Also, will you want to travel with it? If you need a portable printer, that’s important to keep in mind at the beginning of your search.

Compatibility

What devices will you need to connect to your printer? AirPrint-enabled printers will work with your Apple devices, but you’ll want to check for more wireless options, USB, and other connectivity options the printer might provide.
